LCSA Meeting Minutes, Nov 6th at Bishop’s Bistro.

Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by commodores Jerry and Debbie Snell. The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer Report: $3111.55 checking, $900.01 Savings

Old Business:
The club by laws will remain as written at this time as they are serving the club well.
Fall race series continues Nov. 9 and 23rd at Red Wolf Bridge.
New race marks will not be purchased until looking at the club budget next year.

New Business:
Treasurer Don Chipman reported that the LCSA must be reinstated as a corporation with the State of Idaho due to an outdated address and intermediaries causing a considerable delay in getting the annual Corporation Fee form to him until it was delinquent. He will send the $35 with the listing of the new Club Officers after they are elected at the Annual Meeting/ Christmas Party in December.
Tim Lynch brought up the idea of a cosponsor for Alex Bell Cup during the Dogwood Festival next Spring. Following discussion a motion to go forward was approved.
The Club web site has been moved and is now hosted on Richard Huggins' account on the Apple Servers. The new hosting has much higher capacity, more complex capabilities, and is much easier for the web masters to manage. The annual fee for the registration of the Club’s Internet address through Davanti Studios in Yakima will remain the same at $35. Members are urged to visit web site. http://www.lcsailing.org/
Annual Meeting/ Christmas Party with White Elephant gift exchange will be at Bishop’s Bistro Dec. 6, 6:00 p.m.
New Officers will be elected at this Dec. Annual Meeting.

Fall Series - Race Day 4

It really didn't look like a good day to go sailing. Low clouds and a light drizzle made it hard to leave the comfort of the house and the lure of NFL and NASCAR. However, ten of us decided, what the heck, and headed out on the Snake into building east breeze for this race in the Fall Series. So much for the predicted 10-15 wind from the NNW! (Tim Lynch, Jeff Hanson, Robbie Johnson +1, Tim and Renae Little with Loren and Georgia and Murphy, Christian Rinke +1, and Conrad as the unofficial Club photographer).

Race #1 started at about 1:15 pm (we waited for the wind to fill the entire race course). The course was once around with the windward mark just below the Red Wolf Bridge. The current was stronger than expected with the recent rain and Jeff and Christian each made several unsuccessful attempts to round the mark. The wind stayed fairly consistent throughout the race (3-5 mph) and there was no rain. Jeff struggled during Race #1, only to discover AFTER the race that his motor was down and dragging in the water.

Race #2 started off great. Everyone hit the line on time and with speed! It was awesome! Robbie managed to port tack the fleet (nice job, Robbie). Tim got stuck between Islander Spirit and Heart of Gold and discovered two things: 1) those two boats can make a 21 foot boat seem REALLY small and 2) big boats have BIG wind shadows! It was an exciting windward leg, with all the boats staying close. Robbie rounded the mark (barely squeaking by as they coasted head to wind) and ran off downwind as the rest of us closed in on the mark . . . and the wind died. Some how Loren was able to coax Islander Spirit around the mark (with no wind and with the strong current, they managed not to hit the mark!), and Tim Lynch had just enough wind to round behind them.

Then it was a drift. Basically we spent the next 45 minutes floating down river. Tim Lynch and Robbie managed to round the mark, but there was no way they were going to make the finish line within the alloted 90 min race limit. At 4:00 pm, the race was abandoned.

LCSA Meeting 11/6

Hi All:

We have a presentation from Gary Hyde on his summer Tall Ships adventures in Maine. It is good to have Gary back from his travels and I am sure he will give us a ripping good show.

Since we decided not to revise the by-laws at this time, we have little old business. However, officers for next year should be discussed as there will be some changes. The new officers will be officially voted in a the December meeting/Christmas party. We should have a quick business meeting and then enjoy the presentation. Always more fun that way…

“Morning Light” - new sailing movie

While waiting for the wind last Sunday, we started talking sailing movies (more specifically - “Wind” and The Whomper! “Wind” is the Sailing Scuttlebutt web site’s featured Video of The Week and features an edited 6 min. video clip from the movie).

Tim Little wanted to know if I had seen the previews for Disney's “Morning Light” (real life adventure of teens sailing in a race from California to Hawaii). Then he had a great idea! The sailing club should organize a night at the movies when “Morning Light” comes to Lewiston. We could all wear out Club shirts, maybe trailer a few boats up to the theater parking lot and definitely have information flyers with us. We might call the theater and see if we can get a group discount.

At the moment, I cannot find any info on when or even IF the movie will be here in Lewiston.

Fall Races to Start at Noon
