Sailors Conrad Breitenstein (aka Cap’n Crash) and crew members Rob Johnson and Matt Chapman, and three very large “puppies”, Aussie, Ladybug, and Nika, sailed the 160 mile voyage to Lyons Ferry and back to Clarkston. Story As this story is reported to the web in increments, the days will be displayed in reverse chronological order for the convenience of the repeat reader. Monday, 21st. We set out on the next leg. Went thru the lock at Little Goose Dam - quite a process. The bridge across the lock goes up to allow a sailboat to enter. Once were were in the lock, the bridge comes down and the upstream gate rotates up to seal out the water above the dam. They drain the water out of the lock, and open the the downstream vertical clam shell gates to release us. We were only able to get into the entrance at our planned stop, New York Landing, as it silted in since I’d been there nine years ago. So, we bypassed it and went on to Lyons Ferry Marina. Friday, 18th. After leaving Clarkston a little after 6 am on Friday, we were actually able to sail for a while. We locked thru Lower Granite Dam and motored down to Little Goose Bay to camp for a couple of days. The pole we’d placed three years ago was still there, a little bleached-out, and was used with other flotsam to make the Shade Pavilion. Sailing, fishing, hiking, swimming, playing with puppies, feasting. More story & pics to come.
